Windows without COA if purchased online from Microsoft?

December 9th, 2010 | by admin |

I bought Windows 7 from Microsoft through Windows Marketplace, only a download and no backup media. It works great.

However, according to Microsoft’s anti-piracy website, it’s not considered genuine if it has no product key! Did I just buy pirated software directly from Microsoft?

Also is there any way to get a COA (for free) if I paid for Windows and am legally entitled to one?
I know it’s legal… i also know a guy with an illegal copy that has all sorts of cracks to block WGA. So that alone doesn’t justify them not giving me a COA and then telling me I need one.

No, it’s not the student offer… what student offer? I paid the full retail price because I don’t have XP or anything, its just a new computer with no os and I don’t have an XP CD, only a Windows Home Server Cd.

If you buy it from Microsoft, it’s legal. How can you tell? If it is not legal, Windows Genuine Advantage would already pop up telling you that you are using a non genuine copy of Windows.

I am guessing that you bought the the student offer?

I recommend you buy a backup disc.
