NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT can’t work with Windows Vista?

April 5th, 2010 | by admin |

OK, I’ve just downloaded Vista Upgrade Advisor and when it scaned my computer, it said this about my nVidia GeForce 8600GT (512 MB): "This device will not work in Windows Vista. For more information, please go to the device manufacturer’s website, Windows Marketplace, or contact your retailer.". I’m still running XP Home, and the card works great.
Oh, by the way, on the box of the graphics card says: "Certified for Windows Vista".

don’t go by that, i am running bfg NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT oc 2 vista drivers with vista business just fine in fact vista pulled a updated copy down.

I don’t know why it said that. An 8600GT will work fine on Vista. There are Vista drivers for it and it’s a directx10 card. Vista is the only OS that even has directx10.

It should be compatible. Its odd it acts like its not. We have never had any issues with nvidia when we have built computers. Nephew and bestfriend have one and they are great cards. I seriously think its a Vista thing not because i wont touch vista until its been out for a few years, but its simply Vista. Did you guys know its runs better on a Mac than a windows based system? Many of the people I service their computers asked me to rid them of Vista and get them back to XP Pro.
Sorry couldnt help more… good luck
