How to get Games for Windows – Live, instead of Games for Windows – Marketplace?

August 29th, 2011 | by admin |

So, I have downloaded a game that needs Games for Windows – Live to run it. I went online and downloaded what I thought was windows live, but when I launched the program it said windows – marketplace. I thought, "Okay, maybe the name just changed recently" but then when I went to launch the game it came up with an error saying that I needed Games for Windows – Live. I have been troubleshooting for a couple of hours now, trying to figure out what needed to be done. I have downloaded Games for Windows – Live from several different sources but every time I install it, it comes up with marketplace. So, I guess my question is this: What is the difference between Live and Marketplace and how do I get to/use/download Live?

The GFWL marketplace includes the runtimes for GFWL that games use. Of course any game you get should have GFWL installed along with the game if it needs it. This is of course assuming you got a digital download from somewhere like Steam or Direct2Drive. If you downloaded as in pirated the game, I can’t help you. GFWL only works if you’ve got a legit copy and a CD-Key, which pirated copies usually patch out.
