What to say when calling an employer for a position?

April 27th, 2010 | by admin |

I am a 16 year old, have begun my job searching for an entry level position. I applied at a grocery store named Fry’s Marketplace. I filled out an application on March 28, and have been calling in to check the status of my application. This is what I say: My name is (Blank) and I am calling to check the status of my application. The manager always responds: that he is still looking through applications at this time. What should I say to get an interview? Also, I need someone to look over my resume to check on it.

My boyfriend is a manager at Fry’s, he says the best way to get a job there is to show your willingness to work and being able to work at anytime. As you are 16 that would mean any time after school and all day weekends.

P.S. If you get the job the best way to keep it is to not slack off, I assume you are applying as a bagger, part of their job description is to bring in the carts. Do not just stand out side and talk to people, that is the quickest way to lose your job.

Good luck.

If you keep calling, that’s annoying. They’ll call you when they need you.
