April 14th, 2010 | by admin |
In December 2007, like thousands of other Canadians, I got suckered into the “Energy Reseller Scam” DON’T FALL FOR IT!!! Watch this video to get the real deal. Also go to http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/2009/power_of_persuasion/main.html to read other peoples stories of dealing with resellers like Universal Energy and Direct Energy.
go to www.ChrisBurke.ca and click the “Universal Energy Scam” banner to track my progress with this situation.
UPDATE: after 3 weeks of phone calls, letters to my MP and MPP, 2 complaints to the OEB and many phone calls to Universal, I received a phone call today stating that “we are going to cancel your contract at no charge to you as an act of good will”
Read more about it at www.chrisburke.ca and do a search for Universal Power

There is a …
There is a different market in Alberta. I did some research on some of the retailers in Alberta. As far as fix rates goes, I do prefer it. Any one living in Alberta should know what are there options. Direct Energy does scam a lot of people by saying they will put your two bills together (Open Flex). What they don’t say is you will pay $600.00 more a year. I did some research and found “Just Energy” a good company. They have the Green Energy Option (GEO).

OMG. I used to work for a company called “Commerce Energy” in Ohio. This is basically the same things that went on….the sales pitch and everything. I quit after 3 days. The job was torture and I only recently found out that we were scamming customers

I’ve already filed …
I’ve already filed complaints with the OEB and such, and once I started contacting lawyers, UE got scared, and called me saying that I could cancel without paying a cancellation fee

You should call …
You should call Consumer and Corporate Affairs. That is what I am going to do tomorrow. I am really outraged. This is so dishonest.

thats the same way …
thats the same way they approached me.. they told me they were hydro one (bellevilles hydro company) I called them up within a week, to cancel, they told me they canceled it, but didnt.. I started to notice my hydro bill going up, but didn’t really investigate it… then I got 2 bills in a row for more than 3 times what I usually paid.. so I finally called hydro one, and they told me I had to take it up with my “hydro provider Universal Energy” I was totally shocked, then i started the calls

These guys almost …
These guys almost tricked me. Came to my apartment and said they were working for Ottawa Hydro and just wanted to see if I got my energy rebate check. I signed, and then got the scoope on the internet. Ran after the lady and got my bill and contract back. She didn’t want to give them to me. Took lots of arm twisting. Man, am I ever happy I did. What a scam though. They represented themselves as Ottawa Hydro workers. Turns out they are not even from Ottawa. Actually from Toronto.
